Ayub Khan Sarkar, staff correspondent for Jamuna Television in Narsingdi, was assaulted while covering a clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). The attack took place on Thursday at the district headquarters hospital.

According to reports, Ayub Khan visited the hospital around 11am on Thursday to gather information about those injured in the factional fight. While interviewing the victims, hospital staff, and police, he was suddenly attacked by supporters of Abdul Kaiyum, the expelled member secretary of the Alokbali Union BNP.

Ayub Khan suffered serious injuries to multiple parts of his body and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Earlier on Thursday, a violent clash between two BNP factions in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila resulted in the death of one person, identified as Idan Mia. Five others were injured during the conflict.

Locals said the violence stemmed from an ongoing power struggle between Shah Alam Chowdhury, convener of the Alokbali Union BNP, and Abdul Kaiyum’s group. The confrontation escalated on Thursday, culminating in the fatal shooting of Idan Mia, who died on the way to the hospital.
