Country's daily the Daily Janakantha has suspended its publications indefinitely following an internal conflict between the editorial leadership and newsroom staff over symbolic color choices reflecting differing political sentiments.

On August 1, the newspaper was published in black, reportedly under the direction of Editor Shamima A Khan, to mark the beginning of August—a month of national mourning in Bangladesh. However, in a symbolic act of protest, journalists published the August 2 edition using red, representing the spirit of the July Uprising.

Following this, several journalists alleged they were dismissed for defying editorial orders. In response, an urgent notice was posted on the verified Facebook page of Janakantha, stating that all activities of the newspaper would be halted until the matter is resolved.

The notice accused the editor of aligning with autocratic interests and condemned the dismissal of staff supporting the July Revolution ideology.

It also warned that if anyone attempts to publish the newspaper during this period, they would be doing so at their own risk. The statement concluded with a call to uphold revolutionary ideals.

The situation remains tense as no official clarification has been issued by the editor or the newspaper’s management.
