Jatiotabadi Bankers’ Association to hold biennial conference today
The biennial conference of the Jatiotabadi Bankers’ Association (JBAB) will be held in Dhaka on Saturday (August 15), with a closely contested election set to determine the organisation’s next leadership.
The JBAB Biennial Conference 2026 will take place at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in Kakrail. Bankers from Motijheel’s banking district and other parts of the country are expected to attend the event.
The race for president has drawn two candidates: Lion Altamasul Islam Akand Iqbal, an assistant vice-president at Prime Bank PLC, and Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman Mostak, an official of Sonali Bank PLC and the organisation’s incumbent member-secretary.
The contest for general secretary is also expected to be competitive. Mohammad Shahjahan of Janata Bank PLC and A K M Maksudur Rahman Chowdhury of Sonali Bank PLC are vying for the post.
A five-member election commission has been formed to oversee the voting process. Aslam Hossain, deputy general manager of Sonali Bank, will serve as chief election commissioner.
The commission also includes Hasanat Reza Muhibbullah Alam, senior vice-president of NRBC Bank; Aga Azizul Islam Chowdhury, assistant general manager of Agrani Bank; Mohammad Abdullah, assistant general manager of Janata Bank; and Zahidul Islam, principal officer of Sonali Bank.
According to the organisers, State Minister for Roads and Railways Habib ur Rashid Habib, MP, will attend the conference as the chief guest.
The conference and election are expected to shape the JBAB’s leadership and organisational direction for the next two years.
