Jatiya Party Secretary General Shamim Haider Patwary has announced that special prayers will be held at the party’s central office for the recovery of Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, who was injured in a clash in Dhaka.

He made the announcement at a briefing at the Jatiya Party’s Kakrail headquarters on Saturday (August 30).

Shamim Haider said, “We will offer prayers for the quick recovery of Nurul Haque Nur. The Jatiya Party does not broker for any individual or group; it brokers for Bangladesh. Democracy is being weakened by attempts to treat Jatiya Party merely as an ally.”

The announcement came a day after violent clashes erupted between leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad and Jatiya Party in Bijoynagar on Friday night (August 29).

Police and army personnel intervened with baton charges to disperse the crowds.

During the violence, Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, General Secretary Md. Rashed, and at least four other activists sustained injuries.

Nur has been receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital since the incident.
