Jatiya Party's 196 candidates' nominations valid: GM Quader

The nomination papers of 196 candidates of Jatiya Party (JP) in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election have been valid, said party chairman GM Quader.

He gave this information at a press conference held on Tuesday (January 20) afternoon.

GM Quader said that among the 196 candidates declared valid, there are six female candidates. He added that two to three more candidates may be added to the valid list later.

Regarding equal opportunities or level playing field in the election, the JP chairman complained that they are facing various obstacles. He also commented that efforts are being made to distance Jatiya Party from politics through various strategies. In his words, 'We are not getting a level playing field.'

He also said that many candidates on the election list are currently participating in the election from prison. GM Quader also alleged that the interim government is harassing the common people in the name of cases and torturing the people.

Alleging a case-trading business, he said, 'There is a big business going on among those who file cases. Poor people, police - everyone is involved in this business. Cases are being filed against whoever they want. He claimed that many people are being involved in cases due to political vendetta, business interests or personal resentment.'
