JCD leader killed in clash over sweet distribution after Sheikh Hasina's verdict

A Chhatra Dal leader has been killed in a clash between two groups during the distribution of sweets after the pronouncement of ICT verdict against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The deceased is Rabiul Islam, 30.

The incident took place in Jahangirnagar Union of Babuganj Upazila in Barisal on Monday (November 17) evening.

Locals said that Chhatra Dal leaders and activists were distributing sweets in Agarpur Union after the death sentence of Sheikh Hasina was delivered. At one stage, a fight broke out between Jahangirnagar Union Chhatra Dal Vice President Rabiul Islam and Swechchhasebak Dal leaders Md. Awal Hossain, Md. Russell and Md. Shakil. At that time, Awal of the same union attacked Chhatra Dal leader Rabiul Islam with a sharp knife.

Rabiul Islam was seriously injured after being stabbed and beaten. Locals rescued him and took him to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Agarpur Police Investigation Center SI Zahid Hossain said that the Chhatra Dal leader died of a stab wound. Multiple police teams have visited the scene. An operation is underway to arrest those involved in the incident.
