JCD leader’s body found in Mohammadpur
Police have recovered the body of a Chhatra Dal leader from a house in Chandrima Housing area of Mohammadpur in the capital. The deceased was identified as Sabbir Hasan, 27. He was the joint convener of Mohammadpur Thana Chhatra Dal.
Police primarily suspect that Sabbir committed suicide by hanging. However, as rope marks were found on his hands, doubts have arisen over whether it was a murder or suicide.
On Tuesday, November 11 morning, Mohammadpur police recovered the body from the emergency department of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Kazi Rafiqul said, “Upon receiving information, we recovered the body from Suhrawardy Hospital after 10 am. The deceased had marks of hanging on his neck and rope marks on his hands. Although it initially appears to be a suicide, an investigation is underway to determine whether it is a case of murder.”
Citing eyewitnesses, police said Sabbir lived as a bachelor with three to four others in a house in Chandrima Housing. In the morning, one of the housemates went downstairs to buy breakfast. Upon returning, he found Sabbir’s room locked. After repeated calls with no response, they broke open the door and found him lying on the floor with a rope around his neck. He was quickly taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said the other housemates are being interrogated. Investigators stated that the post-mortem report will play a vital role in determining the actual cause of death.
