The High Court (HC) has issued a stay order of the gazette notification of Election Commission (EC) on results of the national elections for the Jhenaidah-1 constituency. The bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman passed the order on Thursday, February 1. Advocate Mojibur Rahman moved on behalf of the writ petitioner during the hearing at the court. On January 7, EC Returning Officer announced the Awami League-backed candidate Abdul Hai as the winner from Jhenaidah-1 (Sailkupa) constituency in the 12th national parliament election. Earlier, Independent Candidate of Jhenaidah-1 Nazrul Islam Dulal filed a petition with the court seeking a stay order of the gazette notification.

ঝিনাইদহ-১ আসনের নৌকার প্রার্থী মো. আব্দুল হাইকে বিজয়ী ঘোষণা করে ইসির গেজেট স্থগিত করেছেন হাইকোর্ট। দুই মাসের জন্য এ স্থগিতাদেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে। আজ বৃহস্পতিবার এ আদেশ দেন বিচারপতি এ কে এম আসাদুজ্জামানের একক হাইকোর্ট বেঞ্চ। রিটের পক্ষে শুনানি করেন অ্যাডভোকেট মজিবুর রহমান। এর আগে ভোট গ্রহণ ও ভোট গণনায় অনিয়ম ও কারচুপির অভিযোগ এনে ঝিনাইদহ-১ আসনের এমপি পদের গেজেট স্থগিত চেয়ে পিটিশন দায়ের করেন ওই আসনের স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী নজরুল ইসলাম দুলাল। গত ৭ জানুয়ারি অনুষ্ঠিতব্য দ্বাদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে ঝিনাইদহ-১ (শৈলকূপা) আসনের নৌকার প্রার্থী আব্দুল হাইকে বিজয়ী ঘোষণা করেন রিটার্নিং কর্মকর্তা।
