JNU student stabbed to death in Old Dhaka
A student of Jagannath University (JNU) was stabbed to death in Armanitola, Old Dhaka, on Sunday, October 19, evening while he was on his way to a tuition session. The deceased was identified as Jubaed Hossain.
Bongshal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said Jubaed’s body was recovered from a house in Panir Pump Goli, Armanitola. “He used to provide tuition there. Primarily, it appears he was killed by stabbing. An investigation is underway to confirm the cause of death,” the OC said.
Jubaed Hossain was a student of the Department of Statistics under the 2019–20 academic session at Jagannath University. He hailed from Homna upazila in Cumilla and served as the president of the JNU Cumilla District Students’ Welfare Association as well as a convening committee member of the university unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
JNU Proctor Professor Dr Muhammad Tajammul Haque said, “We have received the news of Jubaed’s death, and it is truly heartbreaking. The exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Police have been instructed to review all nearby CCTV footage. I am also heading to the scene myself.”
