Journalist Anis Alamgir released on bail

Journalist Anis Alamgir was released on bail from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail-2 on Saturday (March 14).

Senior Jail Superintendent Al Mamun confirmed that Alamgir was freed around 2:35pm after prison authorities completed the verification of his bail documents, which had reached the jail a day earlier.

His relatives were present at the prison gate at the time of his release.

According to officials, a court granted bail on Wednesday in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission. The order secured Alamgir bail in both cases filed against him.

His lawyer Taslima Jahan said there was no further legal barrier to his release.

Alamgir was taken into custody on December 14 last year from a gym in Dhanmondi by the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police for questioning.

The following day, he was shown arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Uttara West Police Station. After a five-day remand, he was sent to jail. On March 5, the High Court granted him bail in the Anti-Terrorism Act case.
