Journalist attacked in Sitakunda

A group of men allegedly assaulted a journalist in Chattogram's Sitakunda on Sunday night (October 19).

The victim was identified as Liton Kumar Chowdhury, Sitakunda correspondent of Dainik Janakantha and former general secretary of Sitakunda Press Club.

The attack took place around 8:30pm near the Railgate area of Sitakunda municipality.

Locals rescued the injured journalist and handed him over to police, who later admitted him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital after primary treatment.

A video of the incident, circulating on social media, shows several youths beating Liton while calling him an “Awami League agent” and accusing him of spreading false news.

Liton’s son said the attackers assaulted his father without provocation and also beat him when he tried to intervene.

Sitakunda Press Club president SF Forkan Abu condemned the attack and demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators, identifying them as local miscreants seen clearly in the footage.

Sitakunda Police Station OC Mojibur Rahman said the incident is under investigation.
