Journalist Bibhuranjan Sarkar’s body handed over to family
The body of veteran journalist Bibhuranjan Sarkar, 71, senior assistant editor of the daily Ajker Patrika, has been handed over to his family after autopsy on Saturday (August 23).
After handed over around 1pm today, the body has been taken to his Siddheswari residence in a refrigerated vehicle, and later transported to Bardeshwari Kali Mondir crematorium in Sabujbagh for the last rites.
Bibhuranjan Sarkar, a respected journalist, had been missing since Thursday morning after leaving his Siddheswari residence. His family filed a general diary with Ramna Police Station that night.
His body was later spotted floating in the Meghna River in Munshiganj’s Char Balaki area by the locals around 3pm on Friday, according to police.
After locals called the 999 emergency helpline, the Kalagachhia Naval Police recovered the body and transported it to the morgue of Munshiganj General Hospital.
Dr. Sheikh Md. Ehsanul Islam, resident medical officer of the hospital, confirmed that the body showed no external or internal injury marks. However, samples of teeth, hair, liver, kidneys, and stomach have been sent to Dhaka for further forensic tests.
“The body was in water and had started decomposing. Final cause of death will be determined after lab reports,” he added.
Inspector Mohammad Saleh Ahmed Pathan of Kalagachhia Naval Police Station said, “For now, the case will be treated as unnatural death. If the autopsy or forensic reports suggest otherwise, we will proceed with further investigation.”
