Five individuals have been detained in connection with the brutal murder of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin, who was hacked to death in Gazipur’s Chandana Chowrasta area on Thursday night. Police say the detainees are being interrogated, and if found involved, they will be formally arrested.

The incident occurred around 8 PM near the Mosque Market area, one of the busiest locations in Gazipur city. Tuhin, who was reportedly recording a scene on his mobile phone, was attacked in public with sharp weapons and had his throat slit.

According to police, a group of armed assailants were chasing another individual when Tuhin began filming the incident. Upon noticing him, the attackers turned on Tuhin and killed him. The sequence of events was captured on CCTV footage from a nearby shop.

Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, Rabiul Hasan, stated: "Moments before the murder, CCTV footage shows known criminals and muggers chasing a man with sharp weapons. Tuhin was seen recording the scene from behind. It is believed this led to his targeted killing."

The murder has sparked widespread outrage across the country. At midnight, students of Dhaka University staged a human chain demanding justice. Several political parties have also condemned the killing and called for swift action against the perpetrators.

The investigation is ongoing.
