Bhorer Pata journalist killed in motorcycle crash in Dhaka
A journalist was killed in a motorcycle accident on the Khilgaon flyover slope in the capital.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon, November 30. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead around 5pm.
The deceased was identified as Zahir Bhuiyan, 53, senior sports reporter at the daily Bhorer Pata.
His son, Rakib Bhuiyan Tamim, said their home is in Chapitala village of Muradnagar in Cumilla, but they currently live in Sabujbagh’s Basabo area. Zahir Bhuiyan was riding his motorcycle to his office in Karwan Bazar when the accident happened. A call from bystanders informed the family of the incident, prompting them to rush to Mugda Hospital.
He said he saw his father in a critical state at Mugda Hospital. On doctors’ advice, they transferred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died shortly after.
He added that they only know the accident occurred on the Khilgaon flyover slope.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, said the body has been kept in the morgue for post-mortem. The incident has been reported to the local police station.
