Journo Tuhin murder: Case filed against Sarjis for defaming BNP
A defamation lawsuit has been filed against Sarjis Alam, the northern chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP), for allegedly spreading false accusations linking the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to the brutal murder of journalist Tuhin.
The case was submitted to the Gazipur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court 2, presided over by Judge Alomgir Al Mamun. Tanvir Siraj, president of Basan Thana BNP, is the plaintiff. He is seeking Tk 10 crore in damages for defamation.
The court accepted the case and instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to carry out an inquiry.
Tanvir Siraj stated that journalist Tuhin was killed in retaliation for filming a criminal gang. However, without verifying facts, Sarjis Alam spread false propaganda on Facebook, unfairly implicating BNP and tarnishing its reputation.
Siraj added that the Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner has already uncovered the truth behind the murder and found no political connections. “Following party directives, I have filed the lawsuit in pursuit of justice,” he said.
