‘Joy Bangla’ slogan inside police station, five arrested in Tongi

Police have arrested five relatives of a Krishak League leader on the allegation of chanting slogans inside the police station while taking the arrested person to court in Gazipur’s Tongi East police station. The incident occurred at noon on Sunday (August 30). Later a case has been filed against the arrested persons under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Police informed that president of Ward No 47 Krishak League of Tongi A Matin was arrested by conducting a drive on Saturday night. Preparation was going on to send him to court at noon on Sunday. At this time at the moment of putting him into the prison van inside the police station his relatives and several supporters started giving various political slogans.

Police alleged that at this time they chanted ‘Joy Bangla’, ‘Joy Bangabandhu’ and ‘Joy Jononetri Sheikh Hasina’. Later police arrested five persons from the spot. The arrested persons are Mahdi Hasan, 26, of Morkun area of Tongi, Harun Rashid, 34, Johura Begum, 55, Sharmin Sultana, 37, and Shahida Akter, 36.

It has been said from the side of the police that Sub-Inspector of Tongi East police station Habibur Rahman has filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act as complainant over the incident of chanting slogans inside the police station. The five arrested persons have been shown as arrested in the case. Besides, two more persons have been made absconding accused and 10 to 12 persons have been mentioned as unknown accused.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi East police station Maksudul Alam said the incident of giving this type of slogans inside the police station is not lawful. For this reason action is being taken against the concerned under the existing law.

Meanwhile detailed information regarding in which case the arrested A Matin has been arrested and what allegation is there against him has not been informed immediately from the side of the police. Police has informed that the next legal process of the case filed against the five arrested persons will continue through the court.
