JS polls: Govt declares public holiday on January 7
The government has officially declared January 7 as a general holiday across the country on the occasion of 12th Jatiya Sangsad election.
The Election Commission (EC) has directed the Ministry of Public Administration to announce general holiday.
The EC's deputy secretary Md Atiur Rahman sent a letter to the Public Administration ministry's senior secretary on Sunday (December 24).
The letter states that 12th Jatiya Sangsad election will be held on January 7 next. It is necessary to announce general holiday across the country on the voting day, on January 7 (Sunday). In such a situation, it has been requested to take necessary steps to announce January 7 (Sunday) as a general holiday on the day of voting.
The copy of the letter was sent to the Secretary, Cabinet Division, Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, Senior Secretaries of all the ministries, Inspector General of Police, Director Generals of Ansar and VDP/RAB/Coast Guard, Director General of NID, EC's Additional Secretary, all Divisional Commissioners, all DIGs, all Metropolitan Police Commissioners, all Joint Secretaries of EC and Director General of Election Training Institute.
