JU admin seize 20 bottles of foreign liquor from Kazi Nazrul Islam hall

Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities recovered 20 bottles of foreign liquor from a room in the Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall on Sunday night (January 4).

The raid, conducted around 10:00pm, was carried out jointly by the hall administration and the hall student council based on a confidential tip-off.

The liquor was seized from Room 723, and a student, Fazle Azwad, was taken into custody. Azwad, a third-year student of the Department of Government and Politics, hails from Tartia village in Dewanganj, Jamalpur.

Sources said Azwad, though a resident of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall, had been staying in Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall without permission for an extended period.

Commenting on the operation, Provost of Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall, Professor Abdur Razzak, said, “We received information from a confidential source about the presence of liquor in Room 723. Acting on this, the hall administration and student council conducted a raid and recovered 20 bottles of foreign liquor.”

He added that the matter will be dealt with according to university disciplinary regulations, and further action will be taken following a detailed investigation.
