JU Chhatra Dal drops two members over posts honouring Sheikh Mujibur
Two members of the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal’s Jahangirnagar University unit have been relieved of all organisational posts, including their primary membership, over Facebook posts commemorating the death anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15.
The action was announced in a press release issued on Saturday (August 15) and signed by Md Jahangir Alam, office secretary of the central Chhatra Dal.
The release said the decision was taken by the central committee following “specific allegations of organisational indiscipline.”
The decision was approved by central Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, according to the release. It did not, however, specify the allegations against the two members beyond citing organisational disciplinary violations.
The two students are Ehteshamul Haque and Foyez Howlader, both members of the convening committee of the Jahangirnagar University Chhatra Dal unit.
Haque is a student of the 48th batch of the university’s Department of International Relations, while Howlader is from the 51st batch of the Department of Government and Politics.
Jahangirnagar University Chhatra Dal Convener Zahir Uddin Mohammad Babar said the two students had posted on Facebook about Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15.
“From the organisational and ideological standpoint of Chhatra Dal, the posts were considered contrary to the organisation’s ideological position,” Babar said, adding that the decision to remove them from their organisational responsibilities was taken on that basis.
