JU student's body recovered from Buriganga River
The Naval Police have recovered the half-decomposed body of a Jahangirnagar University (JU) student from the Buriganga River in the capital's Bachila area. The deceased student's name is Dip Mozumder. He was a student of the university's 50th batch of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
University Proctor Professor AKM Rashidul Alam confirmed the matter on Sunday night.
He said that an identity card of Jahangirnagar University was found next to the body recovered from the Buriganga River. However, the identity could not be confirmed initially as the body was in a deformed condition. Later, the family members and friends of the deceased went to the hospital to identify the body.
Earlier in the afternoon, a picture of the identity card found next to the body recovered from the river was published on a university-based Facebook group. Later, when the Dhaka Naval Police was contacted about the matter, they confirmed the information about the recovery of the body.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Naval Police Md. Mahfuzur Rahman said the body was recovered from under the Bachila Bridge. It is initially believed that the body floated in the river two to three days after death. The body has been sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital morgue for autopsy. Details about the cause of death will be known after receiving the autopsy report.
