Jubo dal activist shot dead in repeated gunfire
A Jubo Dal activist, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, was killed after being shot by ambushed in Raozan upazila of Chattogram. The murder took place at around 10 pm on Sunday (April 26) in Shamsher Para village of Kadalpur Union.
According to the locals, a group of armed men had already set up a position targeting Nasir on his way home from the market at night. When he reached about half a kilometer from his house, they blocked his path and pushed him to the ground. Then, he was shot one after another in the chest and back from close range. He was rescued in a serious condition and taken to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead around 12am.
Eyewitnesses said that there was no electricity in the area at the time of the incident. The entire incident took place in the dark amidst gusty winds. However, some people from the neighboring house saw the incident in the moonlight.
The family claims that Nasir had no personal enmity; he was killed due to a political dispute.
His elder brother Akhtar Hossain said that Nasir had been attacked by assailants once before. He survived that time but was shot dead this time.
However, the police said that there are multiple cases against Nasir at the police station. He was also involved in local criminal activities.
According to local sources, there has been a long-standing conflict in the Kadalpur area over cutting mountains, extracting sand and expanding other influence. Especially after 2024, the conflict between different parties increased over these controls. Due to this, there have been multiple shooting incidents and murders in the area in the last two years.
Nasir's only daughter Lovely Akhtar alleged that her father was deliberately summoned and killed. She demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and the maximum punishment.
A leader of the Chattogram North District Jubo Dal said that Nasir was actively involved in party politics. A proper investigation into his murder is needed.
Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajedul Islam said that the incident is initially believed to have been the result of a long-standing dispute over dominance in the area.
He said that a drive is underway to identify and arrest those involved in the murder. The family has been asked to file a case.
The incident has created panic in the entire area. Many residents are not willing to speak out. The fear among them is clear.
