Jubo Dal leader expelled over blockade of 2 advisers’ cars
A Jubo Dal leader has been expelled over his alleged involvement in a protest that blocked the vehicles of two government advisers in Sylhet. Zahid Khan, the Joint Convener of Goainghat Upazila Jubo Dal, was removed from the party, according to a press release issued on Sunday (June 15) by Minhajul Islam Bhuiyan, Assistant Office Secretary of the party’s Central Committee.
According to the press release, Zahid Khan has been expelled from all party positions, including his primary membership, for violating party discipline. The party will not take responsibility for any wrongdoing by him. All Jubo Dal members have been instructed not to maintain any organizational ties with him.
According to local sources, two advisers of the interim government—Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Fauzul Kabir Khan—visited Jaflong in Goainghat of Sylhet, on Sunday (June 14).
After a visit, the advisers briefed journalists and announced that no new stone quarries would be opened in Sylhet to support eco-friendly tourism, and no new leases would be issued. This decision angered local stone workers, leaders of related organizations, and residents, who collectively blocked the advisers’ vehicles and staged a protest. After approximately 30 minutes, police and BGB intervened to restore order, allowing the advisers to leave the area.
Zahid Khan is accused of leading the protest.
