Jubo Dal leader killed in factional clash in Pabna

A Jubo Dal leader was killed and another seriously injured in a violent clash between rival factions over local dominance in Pabna.

The incident took place around 10:30pm near Islampur Bridge in the upazila on Saturday (August 23).

The deceased has been identified as Mehedi Masud Pavel Molla, 40, joint general secretary of Gayeshpur Union Jubo Dal and son of the late Muslim Master of Islampur village. Imran Sojib Molla, 25, Pavel’s cousin, was critically injured and admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

According to police and locals, Pavel, Imran, and their rivals—Jony, Jewel, Nazrul, and Mufiz Uddin—had been involved in a prolonged dispute related to drug trafficking and control over the area.

Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, said, "Pavel’s body has been sent for autopsy. An investigation into this matter is underway."
