Jubo Dal leader shot dead in Chattogram
A Jubo Dal leader was shot dead by miscreants in Alimiyahat Bazar of Raozan Upazila in Chattogram. The incident took place at 7:30 pm on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Muhammad Abdul Majid, 50, an activist of Purba Gujra Union Jubo Dal in the area.
According to local sources, Majid was walking towards his home from the bazar in the evening. Then, a group of masked gunmen came on a motorcycle and opened fire on him. Locals rescued him in serious condition and took him to Raozan Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. He had been shot three times in the eye, chest and waist.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raozan Police Station Sajedul Islam said that police have been sent to the spot and the incident is being investigated.
Shahnaz Begum, the deceased's wife, said that Majid had also been attacked before, but he survived. However, this time he was killed.
Earlier on January 5, Jubo Dal leader Muhammad Jane Alam was also killed in a motorcycle-borne attack just 500 meters away from the same market. Police have not yet arrested anyone.
Since August 5, 2024, 21 murders have occurred in the Raozan area. At least 15 of them are claimed to be politically related. During the same period, more than 350 people have been injured in more than a hundred shootings and clashes.
