A Jubo League activist died after falling ill during a police operation in Chattogram city. A video showing him in severe pain later spread on Facebook, triggering widespread discussion.

In the 35-second viral video, the man, identified as Didarul Alam, is seen rolling on the ground and writhing in pain. He was shirtless and could be heard saying, “I have two children, sir.”

The video was recorded around 12am on Thursday in the Ambagan Ansar Club area under Khulshi police station in the city. Didarul Alam was later taken to hospital in a sick condition, where he died.

Police said that when they attempted to arrest Didarul Alam, who was accused in multiple cases, he chewed and swallowed several yaba tablets he had with him, which made him seriously ill.

Didarul Alam was a worker of the Pahartali police station unit of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League. The incident became widely known after the video spread on social media later that night.

The video was posted on Facebook by a user named M Mizanur Rahman. It shows Didarul Alam lying on the ground in pain and asking for help.

According to witnesses and police sources, the raid was conducted as part of a special drive called ‘S Drive’ by city police to arrest Didarul Alam, an accused in drug and murder cases. Sensing the operation, he allegedly consumed the yaba tablets he had with him. Police later found him rolling on the ground and rescued him.

Police and locals first took him to Agrabad Ma O Shishu Hospital. He was later taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Assistant commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, Aminur Rashid, said it is initially believed that Didarul Alam died due to excessive consumption of yaba.

Khulshi police station officer-in-charge Zahidul Islam said a post-mortem examination has been completed. The exact cause of death will be known after the report is received. He added that several cases related to murder and drugs had been filed against him.
