Jubo League holds torch, lantern march in Netrokona despite ban, video goes viral

A video of a snap procession by Jubo League, the youth organisation of the banned Awami League, has surfaced on social media. The march took place on Kailati road in Netrokona Sadar upazila on Tuesday night, local residents said .

The 2-minute 22-second video, shared from Jubo League's verified Facebook page, shows 20 to 25 activists holding a nighttime procession lit by hurricane lanterns and mobile phone flashlights. Some covered their faces with masks, helmets, or cloth .

The protesters were heard chanting slogans including "Tear gas-power-wanted, Hasina's power wanted" and "No gas-no power, Zia's son we don't want" .

Local sources said a group of youths suddenly gathered and began marching around 8:00 pm before dispersing after about five minutes. No untoward incidents were reported .

Netrokona Model Police Station OC Al Mamun Sarkar said police did not receive any reports of such a march and suggested it could be an old video from elsewhere being circulated to create confusion. However, he added that an investigation is underway .
