Jubo League leader arrested shortly after quiting post in Tungipara
Gopalganj police arrested Lelin Saha, 36, former Joint General Secretary of Tungipara municipal Jubo League, just two hours after he announced his resignation from the party.
Saha, a resident of Patgati village, held a press conference at Tungipara Press Club around noon on Saturday, citing health issues and business losses as reasons for stepping down. He later attended a wedding at the local municipal market.
Police intercepted and arrested him around 2:00pm while leaving the market.
SI Monir Hossain, sub-inspector (SI) of Tungipara Police Station, confirmed the arrest, saying Saha was sent to jail through the court in connection with an attack on police and vandalism of a government vehicle on February 2. The incident took place in front of Baghiarghat School and College, where an Awami League worker was rescued from police custody, and investigations linked Saha to the case.
SI Hossain added that Saha had been in hiding and was attempting to contact various political figures to avoid arrest. Police acted on intelligence about his attendance at the wedding to carry out the arrest.
