Police have detained Yasin Sharif Majumdar, a prominent Jubo League leader and an accused in the anti-discrimination student murder case, while he was visiting the demolished building at Dhanmondi 32.

Yasin, 42, who serves as the convener of Poroshuram Upazila Jubo League in Feni, was detained by police from the Dhanmondi 32 area late Wednesday night around 10:15 PM. The building had been demolished by protesters amid ongoing political unrest following the departure of Sheikh Hasina several months ago.

According to sources, Yasin is the nephew of Kamal Uddin Majumdar, Chairman of Poroshuram Upazila Parishad and President of the Upazila Awami League, and also the son-in-law of Kamal Uddin’s eldest daughter. He has held significant roles over the past decade and a half, including chairman of BRDB and general secretary of the Upazila Sports Association. Yasin is also a former president of the banned Poroshuram Upazila Chhatra League.

Poroshuram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Nurul Hakim confirmed that the police from Dhanmondi had detained Yasin and that further investigations are ongoing.

Yasin reportedly went into hiding after August 5, following the student-led mass movement demanding the fall of the Awami League government. Police confirmed there is an active case against him concerning the killing of a student during the anti-discrimination protests in Mohipal, Feni.
