A Jubo League leader named Nurul Alam died 'after falling ill' in Chattogram Central Jail. He died on Wednesday morning just a day after his arrest. His family has alleged murder in the incident and demanded a proper investigation.

The prison authorities said that Nurul Alam was brought to the jail on Tuesday evening in a case filed with Satkania Police Station. He was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Wednesday morning when he complained of shortness of breath and chest pain. The doctor on duty declared him dead there.

Senior Jail Superintendent of Chattogram Central Jail Iqbal Hossain said that initially, doctors believe that Nurul Alam died of a 'massive heart attack'. The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy.

Nurul Alam's house is in Dhemsha Union of Satkania Upazila. According to locals, although he was the joint convener of the Union Jubo League, he had not been involved in active politics for a long time. He used to do business in the city's Reazuddin Bazar area.

However, the family is reluctant to accept the death as a natural event. Nurul Alam's elder brother Nur Mohammad claimed that he was arrested with the 'Juba League tag' due to a land dispute.

He said that there was no case against my brother. He used to move around normally and did business regularly. We had a dispute with some people over a piece of land in the Keranihat area. He was arrested because of that dispute.

The family claims that the detective police arrested Nurul Alam from the Satkania police station area on Tuesday afternoon. Later, he was quickly sent to jail through the court. Relatives also claim that he was healthy when he was taken to jail.

Nur Mohammad said that when he was taken to jail in the evening, he was still healthy and normal. The next morning, a call was made from the prison informing about his death. We believe he was murdered. An impartial investigation into the incident is needed.

Although attempts were made to get the statements of District Additional Superintendent of Police (Detective) Mohammad Ibrahim and Satkania Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahangir Alam in this regard, no comments were immediately received from them.
