Jubo League leader snatched from police custody in Pabna

A Jubo League leader, who was arrested on warrant, was snatched from police custody in Bera upazila of Pabna on Saturday, August 8. The incident occurred in the Kagmairpara Stadium area under Bera Model Police Station around noon.

The snatched Jubo League leader is Sohail Rana, son of the late Khondkar Aynul Haque of Shambhupur Kagmair area in Bera Pourasabha, and known to be the joint general secretary of Bera Pourasabha Jubo League.

Police and local sources said a team led by ASI Sohail Rana and SI Rashid of Bera Model Police Station conducted a raid in the stadium area around 12pm on Saturday based on a tip-off. They arrested Sohail Rana, who had a warrant against him.

However, on the way to the police station, local activists and supporters engaged in an argument with police, which escalated into scuffles. Taking advantage of the situation, they snatched Sohail Rana from police custody and fled.

Bera Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nayan Kumar confirmed the incident. He said there were two warrants against Sohail Rana. He was arrested during the raid based on information that he was in the stadium area. However, some local individuals obstructed police work and snatched him away.

The OC further said police operations are ongoing to re-arrest Sohail Rana. Additionally, those involved in obstructing police work will be identified and legal action will be taken.
