Jubo Shakti leader arrested with fake ballots in Panchagarh

A leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP) youth wing Jatiya Jubo Shakti, Sukumar Das Babu, was arrested outside Atwari Pilot High School polling centre in Panchagarh-1 for possessing fake ballot papers on Thursday (February 12).

A judicial magistrate later sentenced him to three years in prison and fined him Tk 10,000 lakh.

Sukumar, convener of Atwari Upazila Youth League, was reportedly found with sample ballot papers while stationed near the polling centre gate. Election officials detained him immediately after the discovery.

Judicial Magistrate Rana Parvez handed down the sentence and fine following the legal proceedings.

Panchagarh-1 constituency is being contested by Sarjis Alam of the 11-party alliance on the NCP’s Shapla Koli symbol, while BNP candidate Barrister Muhammad Nawshad Zameer is running on the Dhaner Shish symbol.

Panchagarh Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Kazi Mo. Sayemuzzaman confirmed the incident, stating that the punishment was imposed for possession of fake ballot papers at the polling centre.
