JUCSU election results to be announced at 7 pm: CEC
The results of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election will be officially announced at 7:00pm today, according to Chief Election Commissioner Professor Moniruzzaman.
Vote counting is currently underway, with tallies from 18 out of 21 halls already completed.
Professor AKM Rashidul Alam, the university proctor and member secretary of the Election Commission, had earlier expressed hope that the results would be declared by 2:00pm.
"However, delays in the vote-counting process have pushed the announcement back to the evening," he said.
According to preliminary updates, independent candidate Abdur Rashid Jitu is leading in the race for Vice President (VP), ahead of Arif Ullah, the candidate from the Shibir-backed panel.
Voting took place on September 11, between 9:00am and 5:00pm, though some delays were reported due to interruptions at a few polling centers.
Counting began shortly afterward, but the university administration has faced widespread criticism for its inability to conclude the process within a reasonable timeframe. As of today, three halls remain to be counted.
The prolonged delay has sparked concern among students and observers, raising questions about the efficiency of the election management.
