JUCSU elections: Results declared for five halls
The vote counting for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) and Hall Parliament elections is progressing, with results from 17 out of 21 halls finalised.
So far, the election outcomes for the Vice President (VP), General Secretary (GS), and Assistant General Secretary (AGS) posts of five halls have been officially announced.
In Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall, independent candidate Zubair Shabab won the VP position with 191 votes. Shahria Nazim Riyad was elected GS with 192 votes, while Arafat secured the AGS post with 179 votes.
Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall elected Maruf from the 49th batch of the Chemistry Department as VP and Masud Rana as GS. In Student No. 10 (formerly Mujib Hall), Asif Mia won the VP seat, Mehedi Hasan the GS, and Nadeem Mahmud the AGS.
At National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall, Rakibul Islam was elected VP, Ali Ahmed GS, and Labib AGS.
Meanwhile, Raihan Kabir, a graduate student of the Philosophy Department, won the VP post in AFM Kamaluddin Hall.
Member Secretary of the Election Commission, Professor Rashidul Alam, reported a voter turnout of 67.9 percent, with 8,033 of 11,743 registered voters participating.
A total of 620 candidates contested for 340 positions across the central and hall parliaments. Among these, 131 candidates were elected unopposed, 68 posts remain vacant, and 177 candidates competed for 25 central parliament seats.
Notably, these elections marked the first JUCSU polls in 33 years at Jahangirnagar University.
Voting was held from 9am to 5pm on Thursday (September 11) across 21 halls, with some centers extending voting beyond the scheduled time.
The process faced allegations of mismanagement and irregularities from various quarters.
