July Charter amended for 5th time amid protest
‘July National Charter–2025’ has been amended for 5th time to incorporate the demands of the July Freedom Warriors.
National Consensus Commission’s Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz announced this on Friday (October 17) at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, addressing the protesting July warriors.
The announcement was confirmed by the Commission’s Public Relations Officer Paban Chowdhury.
Commission members Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Dr. Md. Ayub Mia, and Monir Haidar, special assistant to the Chief Adviser involved in the consensus process, were also present there.
Professor Ali Riaz read out the revised text, which states that the Commission will ensure the investigation and prosecution of all killings during the pre-uprising 16-year anti-fascist democratic struggle and the July–August 2024 uprising, provide state recognition for martyrs, extend support and rehabilitation to injured July warriors, and guarantee legal protection and fundamental rights for both the martyr families and injured warriors.
The Vice-Chairman emphasized that the Commission will present the Charter for implementation to the government in a clear and precise manner, noting that there is no disagreement among political parties or the Commission regarding the amended commitments.
