July Charter disagreements can be resolved legally: Salahuddin Ahmed
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that even if there are some disagreements in the July Charter draft, it can be resolved legally.
Speaking to reporters at his Gulshan residence on Tuesday (August 19), Salahuddin Ahmed stated that if the compromise document takes precedence over the constitution, it will set a bad precedent. We must find a way to implement the compromise agreement within the framework of the constitution.
“There are some inconsistencies in the July Charter draft. However, how can the issues on which the political parties have reached consensus be implemented?” Salahuddin Ahmed said.
He also said, “The government was formed in accordance with the current constitution, and no constitutional vacuum occurred during the swearing-in. Since there is no constitutional violation at present, the issue is irrelevant.”
Regarding the disagreement over the July Charter, he further said, “Everything can be resolved legally through dialogue. I view this positively, but no action should be taken that could set a harmful precedent for the future.”
He further said that not only BNP, but many political parties have given “notes of dissent”. “No matter how much consensus is reached, all decisions will be implemented through the National Parliament.”
Commenting on the political situation and upcoming elections, he said, “The BNP expects the elections to be held in February 2026. The Chief Adviser has already indicated February as the likely timeframe, so there is no uncertainty about the vote.”
