‘July Fighter’ stabbed to death at Cox’s Bazar beach
A man described as a “July fighter,” Khorshed Alam, was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants at the beach area in Cox's Bazar late Tuesday night (March 24).
The incident took place around 11:00pm at Kobita Chattar near the sea beach. Police have taken a female coordinator who was with the victim into custody for questioning.
According to police and eyewitnesses, Khorshed Alam was staying in the Kobita Chattar area when a group of unidentified attackers suddenly assaulted him. During the attack, he was stabbed multiple times, leaving him critically injured.
His friend Shah Alam and others quickly rescued him and rushed him to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. Hospital sources said preliminary examinations found stab wounds on his abdomen and leg.
Khorshed Alam was a resident of the Isulor Ghona area under Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila and the son of Shah Alam. He was reportedly involved in politics with the student wing of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatra Dalin the city.
Following the incident, the body was kept at the morgue of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Police said legal procedures are underway in connection with the killing.
The incident has created tension in the city, with activists of Chatra Dal and other organisations gathering in front of the hospital after hearing the news.
Riduanul Haque, convener of the Chatra Dal unit at Cox's Bazar Government College, alleged that the attack on Khorshed Alam was pre-planned and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Officer-in-Charge Shamiuddin of Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station said efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the attack. Witnesses and close associates of the victim are being questioned as part of the investigation.
