July Martyrs declared national heroes

The July Declaration recognizes the martyrs of the student-people's uprising as national heroes.

On Tuesday (August 5), the anniversary of the uprising, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus read out the July Declaration at 5:30 pm.

Advisers to the interim government and leaders of various political parties were with him at the time.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that the 'Student-People's Uprising 2024' will be given appropriate state and constitutional recognition and the July Declaration will be included in the schedule of the constitution amended by the government elected in the next election.

Declaring all the martyrs of the July Uprising as national heroes and expressing the intention to provide all necessary legal protection to the families of the martyrs, injured fighters and the protesting students, the declaration said: "This declaration has been formulated as a reflection of the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh, who won the mass uprising on August 5, 2024."

The declaration furthet said: "The people of Bangladesh express their intention to establish a democratic state system and a society based on the rule of law and human rights, free from corruption, exploitation, discrimination and values, and free from discrimination, through the necessary constitutional reforms promised in the National Parliament formed through free, fair and impartial elections to be held within a reasonable time."
