July movement activist' tag used to vandalise Amir Hossain Amu's house gate in Jhalakathi
The main gate of the abandoned house of former minister and Awami League advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu has been vandalised in Jhalakathi town. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, May 6, on Ronaldshay Road in the city.
A group of individuals claiming to be 'activists of the July student movement' first removed the tin fence erected in front of the house. They then used a drill cutter to break down the main gate, fully exposing the property.
The house has remained abandoned since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year. Garbage has piled up around the area, and drug addicts have been congregating there at night. Recently, someone had put up a tin fence at the entrance to secure the property.
A local leader of the anti-discrimination student movement present at the scene said, "The students have opened up the den of the fascist collaborators. This will remain open for the people." He suggested the space could be used for various public purposes.
Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Chief Imtiaz Ahmed said necessary action would be taken after looking into the matter.
The old building was completely burnt down in an arson attack that followed the fall of the Awami League government. After the building was set on fire on August 5, 2024, it was completely burnt, and the property has remained abandoned ever since.
