July Revolutionary Alliance publishes list of 914 July Uprising martyrs
The July Revolutionary Alliance has published a list of 914 people identified as martyrs of the July mass uprising, claiming the actual number could be significantly higher.
Saleh Mahmud Raihan, convener of the organisations, unveiled the list at a press conference held in front of the National Museum in Shahbagh on Saturday afternoon (September 6).
Spokesperson Fantasir Mahmud and senior joint convener Ahmed Samran were also present and read out a written statement jointly prepared with the Bangladesh Protest Archive.
According to the organization, the names were compiled using data from government gazettes as well as verified non-government sources, including NGOs, national and local newspapers, area-based documentation, books, social media, and direct communication with affected families.
The alliance said applications submitted by families of over 600 additional victims are still pending, and the list remains incomplete.
The alliance stated that deadly clashes occurred in at least 54 locations nationwide, with most casualties caused by police and APBN firing, followed by actions from banned political groups and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
They also demanded the resignation of BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui over alleged involvement in the incidents and accused the interim government of failing to take any steps toward justice, warning that impunity for mass killings risks becoming the norm.
