July uprising proclamation not to be made by January 15: Mahfuz
The July uprising proclamation is not to be made by January 15, said Mahfuz Alam, adviser to the interim government.
“Even if there is a slight delay, it will not be too long. Hopefully, the students will be patient,” he said while addressing a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy auditorium in the capital on Thursday (January 9) afternoon.
Mahfuz Alam said, “There will be formal discussions with political parties on this issue from next week. It will be more effective if the announcement is made based on everyone's opinions. The government will hold discussions with all political parties and all stakeholders of the mass uprising.”
He said the reform works will really start after the reform commissions submit their reports. Everyone needs to reach a consensus. If we can reach a consensus, a solution will come.
Regarding local elections, Mahfuz said, "It is difficult to deliver services through administrators. People are not getting civic services. So, if local government elections are held, it will be easier to deliver services."
Regarding national elections, he said, "The election date will be clear only after discussions with political parties to implement electoral reforms."
