The National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has vowed to carry forward the spirit of the July mass uprising, stating, "Bangladesh will move forward following the path of the July uprising.”

He made the remark during a road meeting held at the Shaheed Minar square in Gaibandha Municipality on Tuesday afternoon (July 1).

Addressing the gathering, Nahid said the July uprising had shattered the fear barrier of the people. "Thousands were injured and many gave their lives dreaming of a Bangladesh where people can speak freely, protest without police obstruction, baton charges, or bullets," he said.

Emphasizing that the momentum of the 2024 mass uprising must not fade, Nahid added, "If needed, we will return to the streets. We will bleed again if that is what it takes. This country will not return to fear."

The NCP leader strongly criticized the Awami League, accusing the party of orchestrating violence during the previous regime. "They fired on people and plotted from abroad. But this movement will not stop. The people will not tolerate extortion, land grabbing, or looting anymore," he alleged.

Highlighting regional inequality, Nahid said Gaibandha — one of the poorest areas in Rangpur Division — has long suffered discrimination. "We want to stand with the people here. Sheikh Hasina may have fallen, but the Bangladesh we dream of has yet to be built," he added, affirming the NCP’s continued campaign for reform.

Senior leaders present at the event included NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Organizers Sarjis Alam (Northern Region) and Hasnat Abdullah (Southern Region), Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr Tasneem Zara, Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin, and other key figures such as Dr. Atiq Mujahid, Saifullah Haider, and Dr. Mahmuda Alam Mitu.

Earlier in the day, NCP's central leaders paid tribute at the grave of Abu Sayeed, who was martyred in the July Uprising in Pirganj, Rangpur. They were welcomed with flowers by local supporters in Sadullapur, Gaibandha, before marching through the main roads of Gaibandha city and gathering at Shaheed Minar square.
