July-August movement injured to get lifetime free healthcare
The interim government on Thursday declared that individuals injured in the July-August student-led mass protests will receive lifetime free medical care at all government hospitals.
The announcement followed a meeting at the secretariat between six government advisers and approximately 100 injured representatives, who had staged overnight protests to demand support.
Md Sayedur Rahman, the newly appointed special assistant to the health and family welfare adviser, informed the media that the injured will be issued unique ID cards, ensuring lifetime benefits. A written outline of the initiative will be provided within the next five working days, allowing protesters to monitor the government's progress on these commitments.
"We aim for these services to be fully operational by December," Rahman added.
Additionally, the health ministry confirmed that free services will also be extended to private hospitals with government agreements. A support center will be established by November 17 to handle complaints, reimburse treatment expenses with valid documentation, and create a unified network of government and private hospitals to deliver optimal care.
