Justice Khurshid Alam Sarkar removed from High Court
Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar has been removed from the High Court Division based on the recommendation of the Supreme Judicial Council.
A gazette issued by the Law and Justice Division and signed by Secretary Liaquet Ali Molla stated that, based on an investigation by the Supreme Judicial Council, Justice Khurshid Alam Sarkar was found unfit to properly perform the duties of his office.
"Therefore, in accordance with the provisions of Clause 6 of the reinstated Article 96 of the Constitution, the president has removed him from his position on 5 November," the gazette said.
On October 16, 2024, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed sent 12 judges of the High Court Division on leave on charges of corruption and working as close associates of the then government. They were prevented from conducting judicial work on the bench.
The judges sent on leave are: Justice Naima Haider, Sheikh Hasan Arif, Ashish Ranjan Das, Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar, SM Moniruzzaman, Ataur Rahman Khan, Shahed Nur Uddin, Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Md. Aminul Islam, SM Masud Hossain Dolan, Khizir Hayat and Khondaker Diliruzzaman.
Later, the Supreme Judicial Council, headed by the Chief Justice, started an investigation into the allegations against them, and its first report recommended action against Justice Khurshid Alam Sarkar.
