Justice Mamun Rahman resigns
Justice Mamunur Rahman of the High Court Division, who has been absent from judicial duties for over a year, has resigned citing personal reasons. His resignation letter was sent to the president on Monday, February 3, and was also emailed to the Supreme Court's registrar general and the Ministry of Law.
The Supreme Court's registrar general, Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddiqui, confirmed to the media that Justice Mamun Rahman's resignation letter had been forwarded to the President's Office.
Sources indicate that Justice Mamun Rahman had been on unauthorised leave for more than a year. The Supreme Judicial Council had submitted a report to the president recommending action. Based on the council's investigation report, the president had earlier removed three justices of the High Court Division.
Following the political change in the country on August 5, 2024, twelve justices of the High Court Division were sent on leave. Nine of them are no longer in service. Although three justices retain their positions, they are not currently serving on any benches or performing judicial duties.
Additionally, Justice M R Hasan was sent on leave this month after a complaint was filed against him in the Supreme Judicial Council. Apart from the total of 13 sent on leave, two other justices of the High Court Division had been voluntarily absent. One of them was Justice Mamunur Rahman, who has now formally resigned.
