Jute mill workers demand arrears before Eid

Workers, officials and employees of all privately owned jute mills in Khulna brought out a torch procession and held a protest meeting to press their 7-point demand including payment of all arrears before Eid.

The protest meeting, organised by the Federation of Privately Owned Jute Yarn and Textile Mill Workers and Employees, was held in Shiromani area under Khanjahan Ali police station on the Khulna-Jashore highway on Friday (March 21) evening.

Khan Jahan Ali upazila BNP President Kazi Mizanur Rahman, President of Privately Owned Jute Yarn Textile Mills Workers and Employees Federation Golam Rasul Khan, General Secretary Md Saiful Islam, Organising Secretary Md Saifullah Tarek and other leaders of the federation spoke at the protest rally before the torch procession.

The speakers at the meeting warned the workers' director that if the demands of the workers are not met by March 24 and 25, the highway and railway will be blocked in front of the Shiromani Shaheed Minar and Khulna-Jashore highway from 10am on March 27.
