Kamrul, Selim granted 4-day remand
The court has granted a 4-day remand for former Minister Kamrul Islam and Dhaka-7 constituency Solaiman Salim in connection with the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim Mia.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman issued the order on Wednesday (December 18) after the hearing.
Kamrul and Selim were produced before the court in the morning under tight security. Later, Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Ferdous Zaman requested a seven-day remand, while the defense sought bail to cancel it. Dhaka Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Farooqui opposed the bail.
According to the case source, "On October 28, 2023, during the BNP's general assembly in Dhaka, the Awami League held a counter-rally. That day, an attack was launched on the gathering with police assistance, aiming to kill and abduct BNP leaders and activists. Jubo Dal leader Shamim Mia was killed in the attack."
A case was filed regarding the incident at Paltan Police Station in the capital on September 24 this year.
