Kashmiri family leaves 2-year-old girl behind at Cumilla restaurant
A family from Kashmir, India, accidentally left behind a two-year-old girl at a restaurant in Cumilla's Sadar South upazila on Saturday morning, June 27, after having breakfast. The incident caused a stir in the area.
The incident took place at the Jaitun Restaurant in the Mostafapur area.
Police said they contacted the child's family through the social services department based on information provided by the restaurant authorities. The family was reached on Saturday afternoon and is on their way to collect the child.
Restaurant owner Lutfor Rahman Rupon said a family of about 15 members from Kashmir, India, arrived in two cars for breakfast. After finishing their meal, they inadvertently left the child behind.
"The child is about one-and-a-half to two years old and cannot speak clearly. After realising the matter, the restaurant authorities immediately informed the police station," he said.
Cumilla South Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rokibul Islam said police took necessary measures after receiving the information. The family has been contacted through the social services officer and is heading to Cumilla. After verifying their identity, the child will be handed over following legal procedures.
Sadar South Upazila Social Services Officer Shamima Sharmin said the family has been contacted. They are said to have come from Kashmir, but details about their origin and destination will be confirmed when they arrive.
Police said the child is being kept safe and will be handed over to the guardians after identity verification and completion of legal formalities.
