Khaleda Zia, Dr Yunus exchange greetings at Senakunja
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia attended an event at Senakunja after one year. She sat beside Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and enjoyed the Armed Forces Day reception ceremony.
She arrived at Senakunja from her Gulshan residence at 4pm on Friday, where she was welcomed by Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan.
Khaleda Zia arrived at the venue in a wheelchair after getting out of her car. She was dressed in a lavender chiffon saree, and was seen raising her hand to respond to greetings.
The reception ceremony began shortly after 4pm with the national anthem when Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus arrived as the chief guest. He then delivered his speech.
At the beginning of his speech, he congratulated members of the armed forces and paid tribute to the martyred heroes of the Liberation War.
A short while later Khaleda Zia reached the venue. Seating was arranged for her beside the Chief Adviser. The chief of government and the former prime minister were seen exchanging greetings with smiles.
The event was broadcast live on Bangladesh Television.
Khaleda Zia left her Gulshan residence Firoza for the cantonment at 4pm. In the same car were her younger son the late Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Syeda Shamila Rahman Sinthi and her late brother Sayeed Iskander’s wife Nasrin Iskander.
Following her motorcade were BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, head of Khaleda Zia’s medical board Professor Shahabuddin Talukder and BNP Standing Committee member AZM Zahid Hossain.
Besides BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed also attended the Senakunja event.
