BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has declined to accept a sacrificial bull named 'Kalo Manik', gifted by Sohag Mridha, a farmer from Uttar Jhatibunia village in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali.

The gesture was made ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, but the BNP leader instead expressed her gratitude and urged the farmer to celebrate Eid locally with party leaders and activists.

BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid confirmed this, stating that both Khaleda Zia and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman extended their heartfelt thanks to Sohag and his family for their thoughtful gift. In return, Khaleda Zia sent a special Eid gift for Sohag's family as a token of appreciation.

Sohag had departed for Dhaka early Thursday morning with 'Kalo Manik', a prized bull he had raised with care. Upon reaching the capital, he expressed his intention to gift the animal to the BNP Chairperson. However, she respectfully declined the offer while acknowledging his dedication and goodwill.

According to family members, the bull, affectionately named 'Kalo Manik' due to its deep black colour, weighs approximately 35 maunds (about 1,300 kg), and measures 10 feet in length and 5 feet 4 inches in height. Despite receiving offers of up to one million taka, Sohag had refused to sell the bull, choosing instead to dedicate it as a gift.
