The namaz-e-janaza of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will be held on Wednesday after Zohr prayers at the South Plaza of the National Parliament and the adjacent Manik Mia Avenue. After the janaza, she will be laid to rest beside martyred president and valiant freedom fighter Ziaur Rahman.

Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul disclosed the information on Tuesday afternoon after a special meeting of the Advisory Council.

He said condolence books will be opened at Bangladesh missions around the world. The chief adviser informed the meeting that the government will provide all kinds of cooperation regarding Begum Zia’s janaza and burial. The chief adviser also shared various memories of Begum Zia at the meeting.

Begum Khaleda Zia, widely known in politics as an uncompromising leader, died at 6:00 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. The passing of the country’s first woman prime minister and BNP chairperson after a long illness has cast a deep shadow of grief over national politics. Her death marks not just the end of a political chapter, but the close of an era.

She was a firm and uncompromising leader in the struggle for democracy, national sovereignty and the rights of the people. With her passing, the political arena has lost a powerful and influential voice.
